Monique Villa is chief executive of the Thomson Reuters Foundation and formerly managing director of Reuters Media, the news, pictures and graphics service which transmits around eight million words and a thousand photographs around the world every day. A French national, Monique joined Reuters in 2000, from Agence France Presse (AFP) where she held a number of senior journalistic and management positions. As a correspondent with AFP she reported for a number of years from Paris and Rome , became Deputy Head of its political news service, then Bureau Chief for UK and Ireland, based in London . In 1996, she became Director of Strategy and Business Development at the headquarters in Paris, with responsibility for AFP’s major partnerships worldwide.
Married, with two sons, Monique has studied Law and Political Science. She has a Diploma from the Paris Centre de Formation Des Journalistes.
