Rt Hon Peter Riddell CBE

peter_riddell_100x100Peter Riddell is Director of the Institute for Government. He was a journalist for nearly 40 years, most recently as assistant editor and chief political correspondent of The Times and previously at The Financial Times and is a regular broadcaster.

He chaired the Hansard Society for five years until mid-2012 and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, an Honorary Fellow of the Political Studies Association and a holder of the President’s medal of the British Academy. He was appointed to the Privy Council in July 2010 in order to serve on the Detainee Inquiry. He carried out the triennial review of the Committee on Standards in Public Life for the Cabinet Office in late 2012.

His books include The Thatcher Government (1983), The Thatcher Decade (1989), Honest Opportunism (1993) and Parliament Under Blair (2000). Hug Them Close: Blair, Clinton, Bush and the ‘Special Relationship’ (2004), won the Channel 4 Political Book of the Year Award. The Unfulfilled Prime Minister: Tony Blair’s Quest for a Legacy is his most recent book.
