Nottingham Evening Post – 11 February 2008
Talking of debates, how wonderful to see Nottingham reviving the tradition of a speaker’s corner in the city centre.
And how appropriate that it will be sited at the bottom of King Street and Queen Street alongside the promised statue of Brian Clough. Now he could talk …
Older readers may remember speakers doing their soapbox routines in Old Market Square in the 20th Century.
The paving of the new square will be extended into the new speaker’s corner and we look forward to hearing orators sound off on their pet subjects.
With a little regulation and promotion the spot could become a real destination for city centre visitors.
But let’s be having no arguments after 6pm on Friday and Saturday nights.
