Interim CEO appointed to undertake review of SCT (6th August 2019)

Louise Third MBE has been appointed to conduct a review of the work of Speakers’ Corner Trust following changes to both the day-to-day management and to the Board of Trustees.

Mrs Third became a Trustee in June 2018, and took over as Chair from David Pitt-Watson in December 2019. By January 2019 it was clear that the organisation needed to review its achievements since 2007, and to recommend a programme of activity befitting its aims as a national advocate for freedom of speech, public debate and active citizenship.

The review started in February 2019, drawing on the experience and expertise of former Directors Peter Bradley  and Bryn Harris. In addition to formal and informal conversations with partners, the work includes research interviews with local Corners, and an analysis of organisations with similar aims. The Trust will oversee a consultancy project with Nottingham Trent University Business School post-graduates who will report their recommendations to the Board in January 2020.

Mrs Third says: “Speakers’ Corner Trust is a very small charity with big ambitions. But to make progress we need a firm foundation, and that means looking at the basis on which the Trust is managed and funded. I am pleased with the positive conversations I have had since taking over as Chair, and in conducting the early stages of this review.”
