Matthew Flinders is Professor of Politics at the University of Sheffield and the founding director of the Sir Bernard Crick Centre which has been established at the university to study and promote the public understanding of politics as a means of cultivating debate and encouraging engaged citizenship around the world.
He is also Chair of the Political Studies Association of the United Kingdom and co-editor of Policy & Politics.
Professor Flinders is also a writer and broadcaster and has made numerous contributions to national newspapers, including The Times and The Guardian. In 2011 he wrote and presented a three-part series for BBC Radio 4 entitled ‘In Defence of Politics’. His book Defending Politics was published in 2012.
Professor Flinders was a Governor on the Board of Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust between 2008-2011.
